The bye week has passed and a new set of power rankings are in. Although the Vikings didn’t play, teams ahead of them on the rankings played poorly enough this week to move the Vikings up one spot to #21.
The Vikings’ next match-up continued their poor performance and have slid down to #29, which pushed their competition up to #7, and solidly atop the division.
Reviewing the teams that the Vikings have played so far this year, all the opponents ahead of them on the rankings are games that they’ve lost (with the closest loss being to the team closest to them on the rankings). Meanwhile, all the games the team has won have been against teams that are below them on the charts. This gives a good argument that the Vikings will pull off a win against the Bears today, who are worse than 2 other teams that Minnesota has already defeated.
If the Vikings continue to play at their current level, they should win 4 of their final 7 games, with losses to the Lions (11), Packers (7) and Dolphins (5). But we all know that Zimmer’s not going to let any team beat him twice in the same year.
